How much does home security monitoring cost?
Professional 24/7 monitoring typically runs $30 to $50 a month, depending on the options you choose, such as video, smart locks, or automation. You manage it all in the Alarm.com app. The equipment and installation are priced separately in your written proposal, so you know the full picture before you decide.
Who monitors my system, and what happens when the alarm goes off?
Securitas monitors your system 24/7 through Alarm.com, and you manage everything in the Alarm.com app. When an alarm is triggered, the monitoring center gets the signal right away and follows your instructions, including contacting you and calling for help when needed. You'll also get an alert on your phone wherever you are.
Do I have to sign a long-term monitoring contract?
No. There's no long-term contract and no cancellation terms to worry about. Monitoring is by Securitas through Alarm.com, and you pay for the equipment upfront, so you own it. You'll know the monthly monitoring cost and what's included before you decide, and we'll explain which features, like video or smart locks, change the price.
Can I arm and check my system from my phone?
Yes. With the Alarm.com app, you can arm or disarm, see which doors are open, and get alerts from anywhere. Left for the weekend and can't remember if you armed it? Open the app and take care of it. You can also add smart locks, a gate station, or the garage door to the same app.
Will my alarm work if the power or internet goes out?
Yes. Every alarm we install comes standard with a backup battery and a built-in cellular connection, like a small cell phone inside the panel, connected to Alarm.com. So alarms still reach the monitoring center even if your power or internet goes down.
Can my alarm monitor smoke, carbon monoxide, and water leaks?
Yes. Every alarm panel we install can include monitored smoke and carbon monoxide detection. It's optional, and it's your choice. We can also add water-leak and low-temperature sensors to the same system. If one goes off, the monitoring center is alerted even when you're away, and you get a phone alert. A leak under the sink or a frozen pipe in a cabin caught early can save thousands in damage.
Can I get a discount on home insurance?
Often, yes. Many insurance companies offer a discount for professionally monitored systems. Once your monitoring is active, we can provide a monitoring certificate to send to your insurer. Ask your insurance company how much you'll save, and whether monitored smoke and water sensors earn a bigger discount.
Can you take over my old alarm, or switch me from another company?
Yes. We work with many existing systems, including older DSC and 2GIG panels. Often we can keep your existing sensors and upgrade just the panel, which saves money. If you're switching from another alarm company, we'll help you look over your current agreement, check your equipment, and make the move as simple as possible.
Will pets set off the motion sensors?
Not if the system is set up for them. We can use pet-friendly motion sensors and place them carefully, or rely on door and window sensors when you're home. Tell us about your dog or cat at the consultation and we'll plan around them.
